Selecting an Eco-friendly Floor

Consideration for the planet has us rediscovering many renewable and responsible products. Slaughterbeck Floors offer a variety of products that are environmentally responsible, durable and aesthetically pleasing.

Linoleum: Made from linseed oil, wood flour, rosins, ecologically responsible pigments and jute backing; it is another good choice for an environmentally sound product. Linoleum comes in either sheet or laminate style flooring.

FSC Certified: With regard to hardwood flooring, FSC is a certification process that confirms the chain of custody of the product. It meant to ensure the responsible harvesting of forests.

Engineered flooring: Because of how the engineered flooring is constructed - it being a layered construction instead of a solid milled piece of lumber - this type of floor uses the species of the tree (which is the top layer, or wear layer) in what some consider to be a more efficient way. For example, solid Brazilian Cherry wood is most often ¾" thick; an engineered piece uses 5/32" or less for the wear layer over a plywood base.

LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a rating system that measures a building's use and implementation of sustainable products and practices.
