Selecting a Laminate Floor

Simply put, laminate flooring is an ultra-durable product that looks like a real wood or stone floor, yet costs about one-third less than the 'real thing,' it is easier to install and typically lasts longer. Laminate also offers a variety of other benefits, including:

  • High UV resistance, blocking the sun's harmful rays and protecting the floor pattern from fading over time.
  • Easy installation.
  • Excellent warranty protection.
  • Easy repairs, since damaged planks can be replaced without contrasting with the pattern of surrounding boards.
  • Easy cleaning, since laminate flooring doesn't trap dirt. Most spills can be cleaned up with a terry cloth mop, Swiffer, or sponge.

Laminate Means...Versatility!

Allow yourself some creative license by looking at your flooring options from different angles: laminate flooring planks can be installed on the diagonal (instead of straight) -- and tiles can either be laid corner-to-corner or in a staggered manner to create a variety of different looks. You'll need to add an extra 15-20% more material for waste for these types of installations, but the results are worth it!

Match or Contrast ... That's the Question

With so many wood - grain looks available in laminate, most consumers are tempted to try to match new flooring to the color of existing cabinetry. And while it may work out in some instances, you will probably be more satisfied with the end result if you choose a contrasting or coordinating look.
